Add a user to a workspace
Tool: oppex.admin.addUser
Gives someone who already has an Oppex account access to a workspace, or changes their role in a workspace they already belong to. No email is sent. To bring in someone new, use Invite a user instead.
What you provide
| Input | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace | Yes | The workspace to add the person to. The assistant finds it with List workspaces. |
| Person | Yes | The person to add. The assistant finds them with List users. |
| Role | No | Responder, Service Admin, Workspace Admin, Account Admin or Account Owner, up to your own role. Leave it out to give them the role they already have elsewhere in the organization. |
Example prompts
- "Add Leia Organa to the Rebel Alliance workspace as a Workspace Admin."
- "Give Jordan Lee access to the Staging workspace with the same role they have here."
- "Make Han Solo a Responder in the Rebel Alliance workspace."
Who can use it
A Workspace Admin or higher in the target workspace. Account Owners and Account Admins can add people to any workspace.
You can only give a role up to your own, and you cannot change your own role. A Workspace Admin cannot make someone an Account Admin or an Account Owner.
Limits and errors
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "User <id> is not a workspace admin or above in workspace <id>" | You are not a Workspace Admin or higher in the target workspace. |
| "Workspace not found for client" | The workspace is not part of your organization. |
| Role above your own | You asked for a role higher than yours. |
| Acting on your own account | You cannot add yourself or change your own role. |
What happens next
The person can switch to the workspace in Oppex straight away. If they were already a member and you gave a role, their role in that workspace changes to the new one. They are not added to any schedule or escalation policy.
