Android App
The Oppex app for Android alerts you when an incident is assigned to you, and lets you acknowledge, snooze, and resolve it from your phone. With Critical Alerts on, incident alerts ring as an alarm at full volume, even when your phone is silent or on Do Not Disturb.
Install the app
- On your phone, open the Oppex app on Google Play.
- Tap Install.
- Open the app. If Android asks whether Oppex may send notifications, tap Allow.
- Sign in. See Signing In on Mobile.
Google Play shows whether the app supports your phone.
If you do not allow notifications, the app cannot alert you about incidents. To change your answer later, open your phone's Settings, go to Apps → Oppex → Notifications, and turn notifications on.
How incident alerts sound on Android
How an alert sounds depends on whether Critical Alerts is on.
| Critical Alerts | What happens when an incident is assigned to you |
|---|---|
| Off | A standard notification with your phone's default notification sound. It follows your phone's silent and Do Not Disturb settings. |
| On | An alarm that plays the sound you chose for the incident's severity, at full alarm volume, through silent mode and Do Not Disturb. It rings for up to 60 seconds. |
Turn on critical alerts
- Open the side menu and tap Notification Settings.
- Turn on Critical Alerts. Android opens the Do Not Disturb access settings.
- Allow Oppex to override Do Not Disturb, then return to the app.
- Under Notification Sound by Severity, tap each severity and choose a sound in Sound for SEV n: Default, No Sound, Oppex Alarm, Ambulance, or Burglar Alert. Tap a sound to hear a 5-second preview.
- Tap Save Preferences.
The app shows a list of severities to tick under Critical Alerts, but on Android every incident alert rings as an alarm while Critical Alerts is on, whichever severities are ticked. The sound you chose for each severity is used only while Critical Alerts is on.
While an alarm plays, Oppex turns your phone's alarm volume to maximum, so the alert is loud even if you had turned the alarm volume down.
Stop an alarm and respond
While the alarm rings, a notification stays on screen with a Stop Alarm action. Tap Stop Alarm to silence it, then open the incident in the Oppex app. The alarm stops by itself after 60 seconds. There is no full-screen alarm over the lock screen.
Stopping the alarm only silences your phone. Acknowledge the incident in the app so that escalation does not continue.
For acknowledging, snoozing, and resolving from the app, see Mobile app alerts.
Keep the app up to date
When a new version is released, the app shows Update Available. Tap Download to open Google Play and update.
On Android, tapping Later closes the Oppex app rather than letting you continue. Use the close button to dismiss the prompt for now, and update as soon as you can.
