Resolve multiple incidents

Resolve several incidents at once to close them, for example after a misfiring monitor has produced many incidents for one service. Oppex notifies responders about each resolved incident, except incidents created more than 30 days ago.

Permissions
  • The person an incident is assigned to can always resolve it.
  • Owner, Global Admin, and Workspace Admin can resolve any incident.
  • Admin can resolve incidents on services they are an admin of, or whose escalation policy they belong to.
  • Responder can resolve incidents on services whose escalation policy they belong to.

Resolve incidents

  1. In the Incidents list, select the incidents you want to resolve. See Select multiple incidents.
  2. In the bulk actions bar, open the Change status dropdown and select Resolved.
  3. If a yellow note appears under the bar, read it. It tells you which incidents Oppex will not resolve. See Bulk action permissions and limits.
  4. Click Apply. Oppex shows "N incident(s) resolved. Notifications will be sent shortly." If your workspace requires a root cause analysis (RCA), Oppex opens the RCA form instead. Follow the steps in the next section.

If you selected all incidents across all pages and Oppex skipped some of them, a second message tells you how many, for example "3 incidents skipped: you can't resolve them."

Resolve incidents when an RCA is required

Your workspace can require a root cause analysis (RCA) before an incident is resolved. In that case, you write one RCA and Oppex applies it to every incident in the selection.

  1. Follow steps 1 to 4 in Resolve incidents. Oppex opens the RCA form for the first incident in your selection. If that incident already has an RCA, the form shows it so that you can review or edit it.
  2. Complete the RCA form, and then submit it. Oppex copies the RCA to every other selected incident and resolves all of them.
Use one batch per root cause

Oppex copies the same RCA to every selected incident. If the incidents have different root causes, resolve them in separate batches.

FAQ

Will my team receive one notification per incident?

Yes, for incidents created in the last 30 days. Oppex resolves older incidents without notifications, so cleaning up an old backlog stays quiet.

What happens to incidents that are already resolved?

Oppex skips them and changes only the incidents that are still open.

Can I undo a bulk resolve?

No. There is no undo button for bulk actions. Check the count in the bulk actions bar before you click Apply.
